Armenia plans to build new nuclear power unit
Armenia will become energy hub, head of energy department of territorial administration and infrastructures ministry Tigran Melkonyan stated today.
He stressed that with the government-adopted energy development strategy by 2040 it is expected to have technologically newly equipped energy system with modern infrastructures for export.
“The strategy says that the government is committed to leaving place for nuclear energy taking into account the significance in ensuring energy security. Construction of new nuclear power unit is on our agenda,” he said, adding that studies are currently being carried out to decide the power, the technologies with which the new unit will be built. He said the program will be worked out by 2036.
He added that the works of the functioning unit will end in 2023.
