Electoral Code sent to Venice Commission – minister

Technically the Electoral Code may be adopted very quickly, justice minister Rustam Badasyan told the reporters today.

He stressed that the rating system is not the most convenient for Armenia.

“I too agree that the rating system is a partially covered majoritarian system. In case of our country it is more right, more political to have pure proportional system which promotes the establishment of political debates as well. The discussions over it continue. The NA has already put into circulation the Electoral Code which has been sent to the Venice Commission. I think we will have solution in upcoming days,” he noted.

Badasyan said if the changes take place as faster as possible, there will be no obstacles for June 20 elections pass with pure proportional system, with party lists.

The minister said he does not see any issues for parties to get prepared with new rules of game.
