Prosecutor General’s Office appeals court’s decision to release ex-head of NA staff Ara Saghatelyan
Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office appealed the decision of the Court of Appeal to release former head of the NA staff Ara Saghatelyan.
Saghatelyan’s lawyer Mihran Poghosyan claims that after the release Saghatelyan has actively criticized the incumbent authorities which became a reason for the appeal.
“It was strange for us as I assure you there are very few such reasoned judicial acts as presented by the Court of Appeal. There are many issues relating this case,” Poghosyan told Aysor.am, adding that they thought the prosecution understood the absurdity of the case.
He said the only thing that changed after Saghatelyan’s release was his criticism of the authorities which resulted in submitting of the appeal by the prosecutor.
The lawyer said the case is so absurd as over 100 people used from the concrete VPN and to select from them Ara Saghatelyan as a criminal is the peak of absurd.
“At the session of the Court of Appeal I have connected to IP through ProtonVPN program and showed that connecting to this IP has nothing to do with crime,” Poghosyan said, adding that they have got used to such working style of the prosecutor’s office.
Saghatelyan was charged and later arrested in the case of using fake accounts. The first instance court ruled to arrest him for two months. On March 5 the Court of Appeal chaired by the judge Arshak Vardanyan terminated the first instance court’s ruling and freed Saghatelyan.
