Armenia’s ex-ambassador to Israel accused of assisting ex-minister in abuse of power and legalization of illegal incomes
Former Armenia’s ambassador to Israel, chairman of NGO on cultural cooperation with foreign states Armen Smbatyan is accused of assisting former minister of culture, vice-chairperson of the NGO Hasmik Poghosyan in privatizing a territory on Abovian street 3 in Yerevan included in the list of historic-cultural monuments.
According to Investigative Committee, the building and the territory were sold for $550 thousand to an off-shore company registered in British Virginian Islands on behalf of daughter-in-law of the minister. In this way they legalized the real estate property acquired illegally.
The ambassador is charged for “assisting in abuse of power that negligently caused grave consequences” as well as “legalization of big amount of incomes acquired illegally.”
20 mln AMD bond has been selected as pre-trial measure.
The ex-minister of culture is charged under articles “abuse of power that negligently caused grave consequences” and “legalization of large amount of income acquired illegally.”
The ex-minister is wanted.
