CSTO must not ignore Azerbaijan's encroachments against Armenia's territorial integrity – Armenia SCS
Armenia’s Secretary of Security Council Armen Grigoryan attended today the session of the Committee of the CSTO Security Council Secretaries in Dushanbe and delivered remarks.
In the speech dedicated to the challenges and threats to the CSTO member states and events for their elimination Grigoryan highlighted the situation in the South Caucasus, stressing that it continues to be tense agreed with the aggression of Azerbaijan and Turkey against Artsakh on September 27, 2020.
The Armenian SCS said the second Karabakh war once again made it clear that Nagorno Karabakh can never be part of Azerbaijan.
Grigoryan also referred to the issue of Armenian prisoners of war, the “park” describing it as manifestation of fascism.
He also highlighted the importance of undertaking all the efforts by the CSTO for the return of the Armenian captives.
“Today this issue is our priority. Sadly, the Azerbaijani side continues speculations over the issue and impedes their release bringing forward unreasonable arguments and taking the process to deadlock. All the possible efforts must be undertaken to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and I expect your support and assistance in this regard,” Grigoryan told the present.
He also noted that the hostilities in Karabakh were possible to halt with the efforts of the Russian side and personal effort of the president Vladimir Putin.
Grigoryan said the presence of the Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno Karabakh must be ensured for long perspective as it is the guarantee of the peace and security of the people in Karabakh.
He stressed that the CSTO must give proper assessment to the so-called “park” opened in Azerbaijan and reminded the statement of Azerbaijan’s president that if Armenia does not provide corridor to Azerbaijan through Syunik Azerbaijan will take it with force.
“This is nothing but a direct threat to territorial integrity of the CSTO member-state and such demarches must not be ignored especially taking into consideration the aggressive aspirations of the Azerbaijani president. I think our organization must express unequivocal position to any encroachment against territorial integrity of each CSTO member-state,” Grigoryan said.
