Azerbaijan gets new influential tool of pressure in negotiations with Armenia – expert

Armenian authorities till the last moment hoped the issue over Black Lake area would be settled in Armenia’s favor, expert, head of Henaket think-tank Tigran Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook, noting that the statements of the officials about the situation testify it.

Abrahamyan also noted that even if the situation in Syunik is settled, the concession will be made in other front.

“Even if the situation settles externally and Azerbaijani troops return to previous positions, in this case it may be supposed that concession will be in other front. It is not important whether it will be on border or in political issues,” he wrote, adding that the night session of the Security Council and the assessments voiced by the PM show that it is not simply a case of violation of state border but contains deeper issues.

“Azerbaijan not only solves territorial issue – [takes] favorable positions – establishes control on Black Lake water resources but gets new rather influential tool of pressure in the negotiations with Armenia,” Abrahamyan noted.
