Acting Vice PM stresses importance of being ready to possible bad scenarios and defense of Armenia's sovereign territory

Negotiations are underway, Armenia’s acting vice prime minister Tigran Avinyan told the reporters today, asked about the situation in Syunik Province.

“Nevertheless, in this phase we still do not have final results. I am sure in this or that way we will reach resolution as it is very clear that the Azerbaijani armed forces have trespassed the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, and we definitely want to settle the situation in a peaceful way, conduct calm discussions,” Avinyan said.

He though stressed that it is necessary to be ready for possible bad scenarios and be ready to defend the sovereign territory of the country.

“In case of bad scenario we expect the assistance of our allies, but I hope that we will not have bad scenarios here, and all the issues will be resolved through negotiations,” Avinyan said.

The acting vice PM said the Azerbaijani side is showing unknown maps which have nothing to do with reality.

“We may say that their border guard troops advanced based on the maps, nevertheless, the Azerbaijani side confirms its efforts toward peaceful settlement, they say they do not undertake any steps to more deepen the tension, but I repeat that we are ready for all possible scenarios and yesterday’s session of the Security Council and our appeal to the CSTO is a mechanism to prevent the possible development of suchlike scenarios,” he said.

Avinyan noted they have applied to the CSTO under the provision of crisis management to avoid possible escalation.

The acting vice PM stressed the importance of adequate reaction to each situation and not to exaggerate the situation.
