Armenia interested in opening regional communications, no “corridor” issue discussed – Pashinyan
Armenia’s acting PM Nikol Pashinyan says he considers Azerbaijan’s actions non-constructive.
“They are taking steps to increase tension in the region. Our assessment is that with such actions they are trying to abort the further implementation of November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021 statements,” Pashinyan stressed.
He said the January 11 statement was about opening regional communications and regulation of transit cargo transportation issues.
“I want to emphasize that the Republic of Armenia is not only interested in the opening of regional communications but considers it one of its important economic priorities. But I want to stress again that Armenia has never discussed and will not discuss any “corridor” logic. We are speaking about opening of communications of the region,” Pashinyan said, adding that the trilateral task group headed by vice prime ministers of the three countries carried out quite effective and constructive work in that direction and that it has remained to only think about its implementation.
"Azerbaijan’s provocation in this phase was rather strange," he stressed.
He added that in case regional communications open Armenia will get railway communication with Iran and Russia, Azerbaijan with - Nakhichevan.
“I am talking about cargo transportations. In future, in case of normalization of the general situation, the issue of passenger transportations may be discussed in the mentioned directions. In public discussions attempts to talk about corridors are being noticed. The Republic of Armenia has not discussed, is not discussing and will not discuss issue with “corridor” logic,” the acting PM said.
