Armenia President, Ombudsman meet, discuss situation on Armenia’s border
Armenia’s President Armen Sarkissian met today with Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan, president’s press service reports.
The interlocutors discussed the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Tatoyan presented to the president of the republic the results of the fact-finding mission of the Human Rights Defender’s Office staff in Armenia’s provinces of Gegharkunik and Syunik. He stressed that the illegal presence of the Azerbaijani servicemen in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia is obvious encroachment on the rights of the whole population of the Republic of Armenia and first of all residents of bordering areas.
In particular, he noted that the implementation of the concept on creation of security zone over all the border sections with Azerbaijan and over Syunik and Gegharkunik in particular will create real opportunity for the defense of rights of citizens and security.
The president and the ombudsman attached significance to taking practical steps by relevant structures addressed to protection of rights of Armenia’s population and security as well as intensive work with international partners to prevent the illegal actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces and not to allow any such manifestations in future.
